Workshops

Workshop at  Centro de las Artes San Agustín (CaSa), Oaxaca (2024)

In July 2024, I led a field recording workshop at the Centro de las Artes San Agustín (CaSa) in San Agustín Etla, Oaxaca, with the participation of approximately 20 attendees.

Throughout the workshop, we explored the soundscape as a tool for understanding the territory and creating connections between communities and ecosystems.

We conducted sound walks in the vicinity of the center, guiding participants in deep listening exercises. Additionally, we shared field recording tools and techniques, providing attendees the opportunity to experiment with sound as a means of exploration and creation.

This space allowed for a meeting of various disciplines and perspectives, strengthening the relationship between sound art, the environment, and active listening.

Workshop at Centro Veracruzano de las Artes (2022)

In 2022, we held a sound walk workshop at the Centro Veracruzano de las Artes as part of the Ecos Sonoros program.

Through walks in the region, theoretical talks, and practical teachings, we shared with participants strategies for observing and recording species in their environment from the perspective of biology and sound art. We also explored critical elements that, through attentive listening, allowed us to question the relationship we establish with the ecosystems around us.

The workshop aimed to create immersive sound experiences, awakening new ways of perceiving our bodies and emotions, key elements for reflecting on how we inhabit our surroundings.

Workshop at Luum Puksi´ik´al,  Yucatán (2022)

As part of the Luum Puksi’ik’al Scenic Festival, Susú’ha (Clear and Clean Water), I held a soundscape workshop for children in Sotuta, Yucatán, where local children explored sound as a tool for recording and recognizing their territory.

Through active listening exercises and field recording, the participants learned to capture the sounds of their environment to create community soundscapes.

Additionally, the workshop included an immersive experience with virtual reality headsets, where they interacted with Acuiferal, a VR piece that explores the cenotes and their surrounding ecosystems, presented in Spanish and Maya.

This space not only provided technical tools for sound recording but also allowed for reflection on the connection between water, the landscape, and the sonic memory of the region, strengthening the children's bond with their environment through listening and technology.

Workshop at Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca (2024)

The workshop, held in November 2024, explored new possibilities in contemporary music composition through the use of tools such as field recording and soundscapes.

Participants had the opportunity to engage with field recording and soundscapes as key elements to enrich their compositional process. During the workshop, recording techniques and the use of tactile MIDI controllers were addressed, allowing attendees to experiment with manipulating environmental sounds and integrating current technologies into their musical compositions.

The workshop was taught at the Instituto de Artes Gráficas de Oaxaca, a space led by Maestro Julio García, whose focus on experimentation and creativity was essential to the development of this project.

Workshop at Centro de las Artes de San Luis Potosí (2022)

In 2022, we held a sound walk workshop at the Centro de las Artes de San Luis Potosí as part of the Ecos Sonoros .

Through practical activities and listening exercises, we explored the soundscape of the urban environment, combining sound practices for prepared piano with recordings made in the vicinity of the city.

During the workshop, we shared techniques with participants for observing and recording the sounds of the urban soundscape, aiming to create a deeper connection with the environment.

This space allowed for reflection on the relationship we maintain with the sounds of the city, challenging usual perceptions and opening new ways to experience the body, emotions, and the surrounding sound space

Composition Workshop at Centro de las Artes en Cali, Colombia

In 2021, we offered a composition workshop at the Centro Cultural de Cali, Colombia, as part of the Ibermúsicas Mobility Grant for Musicians.

This workshop focused on the study and reflection of the poetic forms present in the traditional music of the southwest of Mexico. Through analysis and practical exercises, participants explored rhythmic, melodic, and lyrical structures characteristic of these traditions, as well as their ability to evoke emotions and tell stories.

The workshop's proposal aimed to open new perspectives on contemporary composition, integrating elements of popular tradition with current creative approaches, and fostering an enriching exchange between regional musicians and the participants
